Modified Method of Transcatheter Coil Embolization of Patent Ductus Arteriosus Using Amplatz Snare

Abstract

Transcatheter closure of the small patent ductus arteriosus(PDA) using a Gianturco coil is a better alternative method to either Rashkind or Sideris device implantation, because these techniques require additional manipulations and procedural
time
for
ductal dilation with ballon angioplasty and may potentially increase patient is the big problem. Using Amplatz snare, the operater maintains control of the coil until coil position is optimal. The snare assisted technique should markedly reduce
or
eliminate the incidence of coil embolization.
The case was three-year-old boy, 15㎏ in weight and his long tubular PDA (diameter 1.3㎜) was successfully closed with the Gianturoc coil using Amplatz snare.
